In the automotive application surface coatings are widely used to give the components aesthetic features and/or improved properties in operation. The surface treatment of body parts is designed primarily to the "color" of the component and its protection from corrosion. Recently have developed new treatments and nano-structured materials that can achieve brilliance, anti-scratch and self-repair. Similarly, surface coatings used on the mechanical parts are mostly aimed at protection from corrosion and improvement of friction, for a reduction in consumption and an increase in the life of the treated part. The coatings applied to mechanical components may in fact increase the surface hardness and improve lubrication during the year. Even in this new field developments will have both in materials (nano-structured coatings) and in the form of deposition technologies.
