ABS Supersteer™ for agricultural tractors

The innovative ABS Supersteer™ system designed by New Holland Agriculture in cooperation with CRF is intended to specifically meet the needs of agriculture and is not merely an adaptation of conventional systems. For this reason, it was awarded the Silver Medal for Innovation at Agritechnica 2009, the most important European exhibition of agricultural machinery held in Hanover. The system is in fact an evolution of ABS technology able to improve braking capacity, handling and above all safety when the tractor operates at high speed, in critical conditions of grip or on steep slopes, with the following characteristics:

pneumo-hydraulic braking system;

• ABS control developed with particular attention to more critical braking conditions  for a tractor (e.g. braking on cross slopes);

typical in-field functions (such as braking of electronic and automatic steering, Hill Holder, etc.).

The ABS SuperSteer™ system, which will be fitted on current and future New Holland high power and speed tractors such as the T7000 Auto Command, permits individual control of the brake of each wheel and replaces the conventional two-pedal system with a single pedal which, activated at low speed, permits steering by the brakes. A second major feature is tyre slip control which allows the tractor to make tight turns without the operator having to use the brakes. Lastly, the Hill Holder function improves tractor control, automatically activating the brakes to prevent this sliding back during hill starts and easing engagement of the clutch.
