In the context of a collaboration and development contract, CRF and Automotive Lighing developed a DRL (Daytime Running Light) based on LED technology for Alfa Romeo 8C Competition. The DRL includes 5 high brightness LED sources. Specifically designed optics are mounted on said sources.
In order to optimize the overall efficiency of the device, a heat sink has been designed and simulated.
The main advantages of the DRL based on high brightness LEDs are:
-
Reduction of the electrical power compared with traditional halogen lights
-
Reduction of the size of the device (<30 mm of thickness)
-
The lifetime of the device greater than the average life of the car
The DRL was approved by AL in the second half of 2007 and at the moment the device is assembled and installed on 500 cars.
