Preventive safety: EuroFOT

As part of the Seventh Research Framework Programme, the European Commission has promoted a suite of Field Operational Tests with the aim of validating the effectiveness and impact, in effective conditions of use, of the most advanced solutions introduced recently on the market to improve and make road transport safe, clean and efficient. The EuroFOT project kicked off in September 2008 with the aim of assessing the main Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that have recently appeared on the European market  Almost all European car-makers are involved in the project, assisted by suppliers and research centres for a total of 28 organizations scattered all over Europe. CRF participates, in close cooperation with Politecnico di Torino, in assessment of the Driving Advisor, the function that helps the driver stay in the lane, available on the New Lancia Delta. Around 300 Lancia Delta owners will be involved in the test, monitoring use of the vehicle for various months (up to a year) via a set of questionnaires intended to record their direct and indirect impressions regarding functioning of the device and its real, perceived impact on safety. The set-up phase has been completed and the questionnaires have been defined and the project is due to start at the beginning of 2010, ending in mid 2011 with analysis of the results.
