PReVENT - Preventive and active safety applications

CRF has actively participated to the Integrated Project PReVENT, promoted and co-funded by the European Commission with the aim to develop and demonstrate innovative technologies and integrated safety systems that can prevent accidents or mitigate the consequences of unavoidable collisions. The project aims at contributing to achieve the objective of the European Commission to half the number of fatalities on the European roads by 2010. Within the PReVENT Integrated Project, CRF has leaded the sub-projects SASPENCE and APALACI and has participated in other subprojects by developing 4 vehicle demonstrators, technologies and high-tech applications integrated in the vehicles. In particular, the following advanced driver assistance applications have been developed and demonstrated:
- collision mitigation and pre-crash, to mitigate the consequences of unavoidable collisions;
- safe distance and safe speed, to keep the appropriate and safe distance and speed according to the traffic and road geometry and situations;
- lane keeping support, to support the driver to maintain the vehicle in the lane by means of an active steering support;
- integrated safety systems, to provide an integrated longitudinal and lateral driving support by managing complex driving scenarios, thanks to the development of data fusion techniques to cover the overall perception of the traffic and road scenarios around the vehicle.
In September 2007, the PReVENT results and the vehicles have been presented and demonstrated to the International Press, European Commission representatives and to the public at Versailles. |
