As part of the project entitled “High Perceived Quality Interiors”, CRF has developed an innovative transparent Proxy Head-Up Display. The main objective is to develop chip-LED technology (in collaboration with CRP), based on the integration of LED sources through a Chip-On-Board approach, i.e. the deposition and encapsulation of LED sources in the form of chips (chipLED) directly on the final media on which the feed tracks have already been traced. This technology has enabled a transparent, small-scale display to be constructed, which, installed on the top on the on-board control panel close to the windscreen, is able to provide important information to the driver without affecting external visibility. In 2007, the work performed mainly regarded the production of two physical prototypes of a display that applied the concept of minimising the cognitive load of head-up projection, while considerably reducing the dimensions and costs of the system. Furthermore, the system is able to maintain extremely high luminance levels, guaranteeing excellent visibility even in daylight. The 2007 application regarded two Group vehicles: the CNH Combine and the FIAT Croma, the latter in collaboration with Magneti Marelli.
