New vehicle architectures

Over the course of 2007, CRF has developed new architecture concepts able to increase the competitiveness of segment B vehicles in terms of structural efficiency and performance. The front frame of the body has been changed to respond to new compatibility requirements resulting from crash tests against deformable barriers, which will become law by 2011. The adoption of multiple load lines, a solution which has already been adopted for segment A vehicles, has been developed in this case with the careful re-distribution of forces along the various load lines, in order to minimise the weight burden on the body, while maintaining excellent levels of occupant protection. An innovative approach has also been developed as regards side impact, which by making the best use of the contribution of the vehicle’s various systems (seat, retention systems, floorpan), the side panel and mobile parts have been significantly lightened. This concept enables the component to be twice as light simply by improving the characteristics of the materials used.
